Todd Mueckenheim

004

Todd “Black Dynamite” Mueckenheim began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in March of 2009. After some persuasion from his close friends, who were already a part of Black Hole Jiu-Jitsu, Todd started attending a few Jiu-Jitsu classes with Mike Wacker. However, as an avid and talented wrestler with dreams of pursuing a college wrestling career, Jiu-Jitsu took a back seat to wrestling. At the end of his senior year and wrestling season, Todd’s connection with Jiu-Jitsu intensified and by July of 2009 the desire to wrestle in college died and the Jiu-Jitsu bug had “taken over.” He considers this to be the real mark of the beginning of his training. It was more than just the sport that pulled Todd in. Todd says, “It was the people who are now some of my trusted and closest friends who pulled me in.”

Todd took to Jiu-Jitsu extremely well, absorbing everything his teammates and coaches had to say. Todd, being no stranger to hard work, began to train almost every day. This devotion rewarded him his blue belt in only two months. Todd was given his blue belt on October 10th, 2009. Looking back on the promotion Todd recalls, “That was a great day. A nice majority of us were promoted together, smiles and all.”

Throughout Todd’s training he has been a passionate competitor. His coach Mike, noticed in a short time the raw talent Todd held which led him to many wins in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments such as the Pan Ams, Grapplers Quest, and NAGA. In search of good competition for Todd, he was often placed in higher ranking divisions during competition as a blue belt.  Even against better competition Todd continued to win tournament after tournament. With much success and mat time, Todd was given his purple belt on June 10th, 2010. This was a great accomplishment in such a short time of 11 months.

After receiving his purple belt, Todd continued to be extremely successful in tournaments, including winning the Pan Ams in the purple belt division and beating Lloyd Irvin Black Belt Jo Jo Guarin by decision. Todd is now currently a brown belt and is taking it to the next level competitively  and  continues to train at Black Hole as well as help instruct both the kids and adults classes and is running his own wrestling program .

Due to Todd’s love of competition, he has many goals to compete in and win gold in various major tournaments including Mundials, Abu-dhabi, and the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship. Besides competition Todd has many personal goals which consist of becoming a more confident and capable instructor, seeing and helping Black Hole Jiu-Jitsu grow to its full capacity, and of course obtaining his Black Belt. However, he says, “There’s no rush. I’m having fun taking one day at a time to get there.”
